My work begins with the simple excitement of seeing.

Landscape is never simply scenery; it is a record of time, work and memory. My paintings and prints explore the visual language of places and things through colour, structure and observation, finding beauty in the ordinary as much as the spectacular.

Working from direct experience, I respond to landscapes, industrial edges, towns and open countryside. Rather than documenting a location, I aim to distil its atmosphere—its rhythm, energy and sense of belonging.

Wiltshire has become a profound source of inspiration, joining the Essex marshes and the landscapes of West Wales that first shaped my way of seeing. Whether through painting or printmaking, I am interested in creating images that are both recognisable and interpretive, inviting people to discover places with fresh attention and joy .

I studied Fine Art at Carmarthen School of Art, with additional studies at Central Saint Martins and The Slade. My work is held in private collections across the UK, the United States, France, Spain and Australia.

There is a contagious joy in Tim’s reflection of the natural landscape in his paintings and spontaneity in his sketchbooks. We have daily enjoyment as we look to a Tim Baynes Wiltshire landscape above our fireplace!

The picture itself looks fantastic – better than I could have hoped – and is a lasting memory of the house.

Thank you Tim. I really enjoyed the evening’s demonstration and given me the push to get back to oils.
