The Sketchbook Workshop
The Sketchbook Workshop planned April 21, 2026 by yours truly.
The objective of this workshop is to convince people that making a simple travel journal is easy. Tim will demonstrate the options and the kit, people might want to consider, to come home from a holiday full of pride and memories. This will the set to keep things dead simple and go in the holiday bag.
People will be able to examine (flick through, or spend more time on) his kit and the options he uses. Tim has been doing travel journals, often just sketchbooks with a few words for 40 years now (29 08 86) ..Tim will bring in more than several examples with him (!)
Workshop outcome: an understanding of easy journalling. And also, as a group activity each of us will create a travel postcard.
Here flow of the session. Tim outlines the objectives People can Q&A on the sketch books, on my formats, and my kit and this can last as long as people like.
Let’s go travelling. This is the group activity each person has a card or two and creates a Post Card to mail to someone next day when they get back home.
What you need to bring – if you are coming to the session – two things
- A HOLIDAY SNAP
Everybody should dig out a picture of a place they’ve been on holiday and really loved. This could be anywhere. And probably will be.
- BRING A SET OF COLOURS,: these could be paints, pencils, crayons, markers, whatever is easy to hand for each particular person coming. No expense need to be made.
Tim will also bring basket load of bits that people can dip in to try out.
- If you already make holiday journals or travel books. Sketching when on holiday PLEASE PLEASE bring those to our session 😊
We’ll figure out getting the post cards.
Most art supply companies sell these. They are usually simple thick good quality watercolour paper with address and postage stamp space on the reverse side.

Tim created this simple sketchbook from scanned drawings in the book that travelled with him to Rome
Tim works one to one with people on this – recently a client commented: “I did so enjoy our session & hope I can put into practice some of what we did today
Again thank you so much for the lovely coffee & all the things I went away with today.”
